Requirements to be a donor:
- Age: at least 20 years of age but not older than 35 years
- You mustn’t suffer from infectious diseases. The semen samples have to be free from any kind of infections.
- You mustn’t have any significant illnesses or conditions. Your family medical history shouldn’t reveal anything of that kind up to the second grade of relationship.
- The donors’ serum- and plasma samples have to be tested according to attachment II No. 1.1 and should give no evidence of antibodies to HIV 1 and 2, respectively, HBV, HCV as well as syphilis.
- The urine samples of the donors tested by means of nucleic acid amplification methods should prove the absence of chlamydia antibodies
- Semen analysis results should be “normal” (in accordance to WHO guidelines)
- All personal data of a donor have to be collected: blood type, rhesus factor, height, weight, hair color, eye color and family background.
- It is essential and has to be confirmed that the donor do not belong to any risk group with regard to drug consumption, promiscuity and homosexuality.
- Blood samples have to be taken at the time of the donation.
- There is a maximum of three live births from one donor.
- All specimens must be deep-frozen and will only be released until the blood test (HIV 1 and 2, HBV, HCV) which will be performed 6 months after the time the specimens were produced, returns negative.
- The “Österreichische Fortpflanzungsmedizingesetz” (Act on Medically Assisted Reproduction) states that the donor can donate sperm to only one clinic (hospital). The donor must be familiar with the legal provisions regarding sperm donation.
