Today, the aspiration of the
follicles is performed by state-of-the art transvaginal ultrasound technique. The transvaginal ultrasound is used to visualize the follicles.
An aspiration needle is inserted (by aid of a superimposed guiding-line) vaginally straight into the follicle to aspirate fluid from the follicle containing the
egg cell. Usually the patient undergoes this procedure in a sleep-like and pain reduced state (sedation).
